An electric scooter, also called an eScooter, is a personal electric vehicle that most often resembles a kick scooter. These rides do not have pedals and are typically ridden while standing, though we do carry seated eScooter models as well. eScooters are battery-powered and use a motor in one or both wheels to propel the scooter. This electric power is controlled by a throttle of some kind. Many models are capable of folding for easier carrying and storage.

An electric bike, also called an eBike, is a personal electric vehicle that resembles a traditional bicycle. These rides have pedals and are ridden while sitting down. These vehicles use motors located somewhere on the bike, often in the rear wheel or by the crankset, to offer pedal assist, or PAS, which aids the rider in the pedaling process. Some, but not all, electric bikes also have a throttle, which propels the bike without the need to pedal at all. These bikes are powered by a battery, which can sometimes be removed while the bike is not in use.

The top speeds of GOTRAX electric scooters vary by model. The fastest GOTRAX eScooter reaches top speeds of 38 miles per hour.

GOTRAX electric bikes follow the eBike class system. There are three classes of electric bike: Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3. Class 1 and 2 electric bikes reach top speeds of 20 miles per hour, while Class 3 eBikes reach top speeds of 28 miles per hour. GOTRAX carries eBikes of all three classes.

The range of a GOTRAX eScooter or eBike on a single charge depends on a number of factors including weather, terrain, temperature, riding mode, rider and cargo weight, and more. With proper care, GOTRAX batteries should maintain about 80% of their capacity after 500 charge cycles.

GOTRAX electric vehicles are not waterproof, and in general, riders should avoid exposure to water where possible. Water has the potential to damage the components of your vehicle, especially the electrical components. Damage due to water exposure is not covered by our warranty.

Many GOTRAX eScooters use a kick-to-start method. To start a kick-to-start scooter, first position yourself on the scooter, then use one foot to kick off. Once you reach a speed of about 3 miles per hour, you can press the throttle and begin riding your eScooter as normal. If you need help with the kick-to-start process, read our kick-to-start guide.

To start an electric bike, first turn the bike on. Most GOTRAX eBikes will be set to pedal assist (PAS) level 0 by default when turning on. The bike is ridable while off or in PAS level 0, but it will not provide electric assistance. To activate the electric assistance on your bike, increase the PAS level to your desired setting and begin pedaling.

In order to charge your GOTRAX electric vehicle, you need to use the official GOTRAX charger that came with your eScooter or eBike. Your vehicle should have a charging port somewhere on the body of the vehicle. For scooters, this is often located on the side of the scooter deck, and for bikes, this is usually located on the side of the eBike's frame. Your manual should have more information regarding the location of your vehicle's charging port. Many GOTRAX eBike batteries can also be charged directly while removed, so long as the eBike has a removable battery. Your manual will indicate if and how your eBike's battery can be removed, as well as how to charge the removed battery.

To begin charging your vehicle, you'll need to plug one end of your charger into the charging port of either the vehicle (or the battery, if applicable) and the other end into an outlet. A colored light should appear on the charger. While the light is red, the vehicle is in the process of charging. When the light turns green, the vehicle is fully charged and should be removed from the charger.

It is important to charge your vehicle safely. Never leave your vehicle to charge unattended, and do not charge overnight. Do not overcharge your vehicle; remove it from the charger once the battery is full. Make sure to charge the battery in a sheltered and temperature-controlled environment, and do not charge the battery on or near flammable material. The instructions for entering a digital passcode and unlocking your electric bike or scooter varies depending on the model. In general, riders will need to input their passcode into the vehicle's display in order to unlock their vehicle and begin riding. Many GOTRAX electric scooters feature a digital passcode lock that helps prevent thieves from riding off with your scooter. If you have not successfully unlocked your scooter before attempting to ride, you may have set off the scooter’s security system by accident. When you attempt to ride a locked scooter, the alarm may start beeping, and the scooter’s electric features will be inoperable. To stop the beeping and begin riding your scooter, you will need to enter the correct passcode and unlock the scooter.

The process for changing the display settings varies between models. Your user manual should have detailed instructions for adjusting your display settings. You can access the manual for your GOTRAX ride on our Manuals Page.

While default passcodes vary between models, for most GOTRAX e-bikes and e-scooters, the default passcode is either 000 or 0000. If this default passcode does not work, check the manual for your specific vehicle to see what the default passcode is listed as.

GOTRAX products can be shipped to locations in the contiguous United States. We cannot ship to P.O. Boxes, APO Addresses, Hawaii and Alaska, or addresses outside the continental United States.

Yes, GOTRAX has a limited warranty. The warranty period is two years for adult electric scooters and bikes, one year for powersports items (including dirt bikes, ATVs, and Golf Carts), and 90 days on kid's electric scooters and hoverboards. Only GOTRAX adult e-bikes and e-scooters purchased on or after 11/1/23 are covered by a two year warranty. Adult e-bikes and e-scooters purchased before 11/1/23 are covered by a one year warranty.
